People are sprinkling their links around like you would seed to grow grass. The more seed you plant, the more chance you have of producing a beautiful lawn. This same process holds true with link building, the more links available that link directly back to your site, the more chances you have of generating quality traffic. The key is to focus on the quality of the inbound link. Make sure that it is being placed at a site that has similar content as yours. For example, if you are running a mortgage blog, do not attempt to place your link on a blog that discusses different ice cream flavors. That is a rash example, but it’s definitely a beginner’s mistake.

Many in the online business world continue to debate whether or not having too many backlinks may actually hurt one’s attempts to ranking their page or blog high. Because spiders crawl around the internet for the search engines looking for relevant content based on a keyword search which include links, many believe too many opens up one’s chances of exposing those that may be considered poor quality. However, many also believe in the old adage that having too many is a much better option than simply not having enough. No matter what side you believe, the entire process is fundamental in understanding how to build a successful search engine optimization campaign.
